There are two types of pain. There is chronic and acute pain. Each one has specific aliments that can be categorized by category, the acute or the chronic pain. Each person’s pain level and tolerances are different than another’s. So when someone says I felt this amount of pain, you may feel like this too, don’t listen, you may feel pain but you may feel it less or maybe more than another.
Acute pain starts very fast and comes on suddenly. The pain can be described as a warning to the body or it can be a pain that occurs when something has already happened in the body. Some clear examples of acute pain are pains from surgery, broken bones, any form of dental work, cuts, burns or bruises and the pain felt with labor and childbirth itself. Acute pain can last from a few minutes to several hours like in the case of broken bones, surgery and especially childbirth. Acute pain that is not treated can lead to chronic pain, so at any sign of nearly unbearable pain, please alleviate it the best you can. So it doesn’t get worse.
Chronic pain differs from acute pain in the way that the pain can last even after the surgery or after the injury has healed. The pain signals that emit from the area of injury can last in the nervous system for weeks, months and sometimes years. There can be physical signs of pain as well; there would be limited movement in the area of the injury. For example, if you broke your arm and after it has healed up you still feel some joint pain due to the injury, then you are suffering from chronic pain.
You may experience fatigue and possible appetite changes due to the physicality of the injury. There are other types of chronic pain besides lasting physical pain. They include headaches, low back pain, Cancer pains, arthritis pain, neurogenic pain which is pain that comes from nerve damage and psychogenic pain which is pain that does not come from any past injury of disease.
Chronic pain may have begun with a trauma or an injury and even an infection but in turn there may be a pain that comes from lack of an injury as well. There are hundreds of different categories of pain that can be classified as acute or chronic. Each cause of pain has a treatment or a temporary solution. Remember, just because you know someone who experienced the same type of pain it doesn’t mean that the level of pain is going to be the same.
