Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a Mandarin Chinese method of treatment. This technique is used by inserting needles into the skin at the pressure points of the body. It is believed that by doing this, the stress tension and pains will disappear. This is done over a course of 2 or 3 sessions. The World Health Organization recognizes this type of practice. But some do believe that the treatment doesn’t work and there have been studies to find out if there are any benefits to acupuncture. But so far there isn’t a lot of evidence to support either argument. Some people who have had the treatment have recommended it and others say they wouldn’t do it again.

But believers in the treatment have said that acupuncture works on ailments such as headaches, low back pain and even helps nausea. The most common ailment is the headache, and the pins are inserted just below the skin level on the pressure points in the area and it has been very effective in 85% of the people who have tried it. Popular health organizations such as the World Health Organization, the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, The National Institute of Health and the American Medical Association have all conducted their own studies and have found the effects of Acupuncture to be safe. The person who administers the therapy must be a trained professional and they must have a license.

Vascular headaches or migraines as they are more commonly known by, can be treated with medications, either over the counter or by prescription, they work by dilating the blood vessels in the head to relieve the pressure. But the acupuncture works by stimulating the pressure points or sensitive points in the affected area, thereby releasing the pressure but instead of medications they are using needles. In the case of acupuncture, the needles are inserted about 3 to 5 mm until the patient feels a twinge that means the needle has found the pressure points. The needles are left there for about 15 to 20 minutes, as the needles are working to relieve the pressure as the patient is relaxing.

Acupuncture is not for everyone and you should always check with your doctor before trying anything new. Only go to an acupuncturist who is trained and has a training certificate displayed. The experience can only be positive; three health organizations have deemed the practice safe. If you have always wanted to try it and the session is in your price range then by all means try it, you never know it may help.
