For those people who have heard the word before but did not know what Sciatica is, it is a pain with a tingling or a numbness that is produced by an irritation of the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is created by the nerve roots that are protruding out of the spinal cord and into the lower back. The sciatic nerve spreads out and they extend through the buttocks and down the back to the right and left leg and then they extend to the ankle and then down to the foot.

Amputation is the removal of a body part such as a leg or arm, finger or toes. The removal is conducted via surgery.  Amputation is done to avoid a disease from spreading to the rest of the body. The extremity may have to be removed due to injury then it is done the same way as an amputation for a diseased limb as well.

Neck pain is a common occurrence and can happen anywhere from the bottom of the head to the top of the shoulders. Depending on the pain, it can even spread to the upper back and the top of the arms. Neck pain can cause very limited neck movement. Neck pain is more common in older people over the age of 50. But that number varies on accidents that result in traumas to the neck region.

Everyone faces some type of facial pain at time or another. Facial pain can be anything from a tooth ache, a sinus infection, a facial injury, TMJ or Trigeminal neuralgia. The first group the tooth ache, the sinus infection, injury and TMJ are all common facial ailments. They can be treated with either antibiotics or an over the counter medications. Trigeminal Neuralgia or TN is a facial ailment that can be described as a shooting pain in the face.

Herniated discs is a pathological condition when a rip or tear in the outer ring of the intervertebral disc that permits the soft part of the disc to stick out of the inside of the disc. The other names that are associated with the herniated discs are ruptured discs and prolapsed disc.

The main symptom of FM is a widespread pain often accompanied by touch sensitivity, tingling of the skin, muscle aches, long muscle spasms, weakness in the arms and legs and nerve pain. Sleep problems are also common with FM. The stage of sleep known as REM, Rapid Eye Movement, is never really achieved. Some patients will also experience brain fog; brain fog is abnormal slow brain waves. Some researches suggest that brain fog be associated with sleep disturbances.

The Fibromyalgia or FM is a chronic syndrome that affects the muscle joints, bone pain, fatigue and other symptoms as well.  It is not a contagious disease but studies have revealed that the disease may be a genetic one. FM affects females more than males by a ratio of 9 to 1. It is not a common disease and it estimated that  6% of the population  may have this disease. The origin of FM is not quite known and when patients go to the doctors the doctors have been know to accuse the patients of hypochondria because it is difficult to detect.

An intervertbral disc which is called a degenerative disc disease or DDD, this disc is located in the spine. It is a common disorder of the lower spine. It can lead to a much worse condition called spinal stenosis which happens when the spinal canal that holds the spinal cord and roots begins to narrow. From DDD you may also get spondylolisthesis which is the frontward slippage of the disc and vertebra and retrolisthesis which is the backward slippage of the disc and vertebra. DDD is not really classified as a disease but a degenerative condition that depending on the person can be rather painful.

Complementary medicines can be used along with conventional medicines. Both Complementary and Alternative medicines are known under one umbrella called CAM. Alternative medications deals with spiritual, metaphysical and even some religious undertones. Alternative medicines come the ancient Chinese times of healing without doctor prescribed medications.

It is estimated that over 85% of people will be affected by lower back pain at one time or another.  Leg pain is sometimes associated with the back pain so it can make the diagnosis easier. One of those disorders is called lumbar Radiculopathy which means pain in the lower part of the body such as the back and the legs. The pain can be so severe that it can be downright debilitating and can also slow down daily activities. When you are experiencing back pain and you can’t relieve the pain even with an over the counter mediation, it is time to go see a doctor. After you describe the pain, they are going to want to do a physical exam.
